James Eugene Goering
James Eugene Goering, 80, of Waterloo, IA, walked into the arms of Jesus, whom he trusted as his Lord and Savior and served his entire life, on Tuesday, July 19, 2022, while a patient at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. He was born in Moundridge, Kansas, the son of Jacob and Anna Schrag Goering. James married Gloria Jean Vermaas on September 7, 1974, and the couple was blessed with four children. James and Gloria met on campus at the University of Northern Iowa, where both were involved in ministry. The couple continued ministry together until his death.
He was saved at an early age after asking his mother how to know eternal life. The Lord called James into the ministry at the age of 7. He graduated from Grace Theological Seminary and was an ordained minister of the Gospel, serving as pastor of many churches. He was also the preacher on the Public Access TV station “Charting through the Bible” for 10 years.
Ministry for James took many forms. Twice he took a group to the Middle East, walking on the ground that Jesus walked. He read the Bible daily and was disciplined to read the entire Bible yearly from cover to cover for over 50 years. James wrote several books, numerous tracts, and a monthly newsletter, sharing his living Savior with others. James and Gloria operated a soul winning booth at numerous state and county fairs, sharing Jesus with others.
James is survived by his wife Gloria, of Waterloo, IA; his children, Angela (Michael) Fitzpatrick of Waterloo, IA, Jessica Wood of Honolulu, Hawaii, Victoria (Andrew) Jergenson of Aitkin, Minnesota, and Josiah (Hannah) Goering of Waukegan, Illinois; siblings, Charles (Annora) Goering of Marion, Kansas, and Sylvia (Phil) Schroeder of Charlottesville, Virginia; 9 grandchildren: Ashley, Bradley, Hayley, Madison, Caleb, Christian, Isabel, Greta, and Judah; and numerous other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Dwight L. Goering.

2 Timothy 4:7-8. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.”
