Look for Points of Connection

God is interested in people coming to know Jesus as their Savior more than we are. Being aware of God’s deep divine love for people puts things into perspective. Our responsibility is to be observant and cooperate with God. Daily activities often provide opportunities for one to engage others in conversation. Ordinary discussions can turn into witnessing opportunities. A point of contact, or lead-in, is a bridge or bond that helps us relate to others, hopefully getting past a self-defensive barrier that people may have. Putting out a feeler, one can see if there is an opening for sowing seed, watering, or harvesting a soul for eternity. God provides points of entry to open conversations, keys to make contact that allow us to present the claims of Christ. When a conversation takes a spiritual turn, we can see how far it can go. Clearly sometimes there is no interest in spiritual truths; other times, there is openness and one can proceed to a conclusion.

Soul winners should keep in mind that only God can work in a person’s heart and life for salvation. No human power can bring anyone to Christ. The challenge is to discover the reason God has brought individuals across our path. Jesus said, “I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father” (John 6:65).

In summation, soul winning is not about what we can do but what God is already in the process of doing, and we cooperate with Him in that process!
