Be Confident in Christ

When the Lord asked me to consider working with college students, I thought, “Me?” I had preconceived ideas of what it would take; I did not feel intelligent, cool, or fashionable enough to relate to college students. The Lord would have to do it through me and in spite of me. I claimed the promise, “He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24). Students ended up being interested in seeing someone that was real in their walk with the Lord, and God was indeed visibly faithful in my life. Only eternity will reveal the extent of fruit from those years.

Many feel unable to witness. That is good—God enjoys choosing those unable in themselves to do His work. This way, He gets the glory! If a person has a natural ability, it is easy to rely on that rather than to depend on Him. God often asks us to serve Him, not in areas of our strengths, but in areas of weakness. That way we do not get the credit—He does! God is in the constant process of stretching us and getting us to grow in our walk of faith. Feeling inadequate to lead others to Christ is a good sign because then we are dependent on God. He uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. All we can humanly do is be an instrument, used by God, to bring someone to Christ. All we can do is make ourselves available to serve. Our confidence is not in ourselves but in Christ! “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
